06 October 2011

lately, i've come to realize...

noah, discovering the joys of almond butter, straight from the spoon.

it doesn't matter how much baby noah does or doesn't wake up at night. the next day, i will still be tired.

most of the food that i eat is usually just a vehicle for almond/peanut butter.

it seems that i'm passing that trait onto my baby boy.

it's really hard to come up with new ideas for healthy dinners every night. i'm stockpiled with ideas for recipes with loads of butter, cheese and the works. but there is really only so much i can do with fish/chicken and vegetables.

and it doesn't matter how hard i try to eat healthy all week. by friday, i always cave and bake something.  usually involving chocolate chips.

there are no boundaries between a mother and child. we literally share everything. food, sleep, my body...you name it.

i've never really known how to style my own hair.

and i'll probably never really know how to iron well.

it doesn't matter how many times i clean the kitchen floor. it still never looks clean.

but i'll still eat something that's fallen on it - even past the ten second rule.

the majority of my time is going to be spent at parks and playgrounds in the next coming years. but i'm perfectly okay with that.

i'm probably never going to like running.

but i love walking. so i try to do lots.

that's all. xo.

tickling the ivories.

we've really missed our family since getting back to dallas the last couple of weeks. baby noah loves all of them so much, and it is so fun to see the unique bond he is forming with each of them.

i love this picture of noah and my sister, anna. this may be the most calm/still noah was the entire time we were staying at my parents house. or ever. he loved the piano - both banging on the keys and watching it played. i hope that love continues to grow....somewhere in between his obsession with balls, sports and climbing dangerous objects. i grew up playing the piano. and i admit that i was forced to practice much more than i ever volunteered to do, but now appreciate my mom taking the time to set that timer above the keys and make me play until it went off.

blog friends, what are you thoughts of making your children play a musical instrument? i think it instills discipline, focus and gives them a diverse skill set. i like the idea of my children being well-rounded.

even if it is a little forced on my end.

have a great tuesday. xo.

50 state stereotypes.

this video made me laugh. this guy, paul jury took a 19,000 mile roadtrip through the 48 contiguous states in 48 days in attempt to find a direction in life.

that's one way to go about it.

i can't help but be a little jealous, considering i can count all the states i have visited on one hand.

i guess he only took one shirt with him.

happy tuesday. xo.

monday confessions.

i always have to make my bed. i can't leave the house knowing that the sheets are in shambles.

i got winded driving in my car the other day. i had to pull over to lay back and catch my breath. i'm not sure how this happened. but it's just more motivation to lose the baby weight.

i carry a water bottle with me everywhere. i immediately (probably subconsciously) get dehydrated if it's not with me.

even though i have loved, really loved, being pregnant, i'm excited for when i can start sleeping on my stomach again.

if i hear the song, "hey soul sister..." (you know the one i'm talking about??) on the radio one more time, i'm going to boycott listening to music.

when people think that my spouse, Cortney, is a woman, i almost never correct them.

i usually balance out a really productive day, by having a really lazy day the next.

i'm kind of nervous about becoming a mom. even at the young age of 27, i feel set in my ways, and am scared about how much things are going to change.

i love dr. quinn, medicine woman.

since being pregnant, i think i've visited every public restroom from dallas to san francisco. and that kind of makes me sick.

i'm a registered yoga teacher that has never taught a real class (for money anyway). i got certified, moved and then immediately got pregnant. i'm hoping that someone will still want to hire me when i'm ready to start teaching.

one of my favorite movies of all time is Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves, but I fall asleep in the same spot every time. i don't think i've actually been able to finish the movie in years.

i tried to be a vegan and lasted for about two weeks. my skin looked pale and my hair started falling out - i obviously was doing something wrong. now i call myself a vegetarian, or a pescatarian, but since i've been pregnant, i've been a flexitarian.

i hate loud noises, or being startled.

i keep having dreams that i deliver a 40 pound baby. i don't remember if it was a vaginal delivery.

i'm due a week from today, although i don't think our little cupcake will be making an appearance for a couple more weeks. but i'd love to be surprised.

happy monday. xo.

friday thoughts.

it's official, i'm going to be pregnant forever. just kidding. but in all seriousness, i had another appointment today and still no progress. i know that doesn't necessarily mean anything, but a little would still make me feel better. i've had my heart set on a natural birth since i got pregnant, but it seems that everything is working against me. i really don't want to be induced (and am avoiding a c-section like the plague)...words that are being thrown around by my doctor a lot these days. i really do believe he'll come when he's ready. just wish that was sooner than later.

saw kesha (??) perform on the today show this morning. now, i don't know much about this girl, but i'm pretty convinced it takes zero actual talent to make it in the biz these days. i sat with my mouth wide open (not in a good way) taking in her "lyrics" and dance moves.

also saw dina lohan (mother of lindsey) on the show - it's interesting what is considered "news" now. it's kind of depressing. i still watched it though - and i've never seen a mother in such denial. sad, sad.

heard a warning watching the weather forecast this morning, advising us texans to stay inside. air quality and heat index are far too high these days. i have to admit though, a lot of people had me thinking that a texas summer would be a lot worse than it is. we've had one, maybe two, near-miserable weeks (at least for me) of heat and humidity. the rest...well, it's just summer...it's hot. and i still love the sun.

i really, really want to see eat pray love this weekend (to make up for this bomb of a movie we saw last), but don't think i can sit for that long anymore. i don't know...i may be able to be convinced with comfy clothes and a large supply of candy.

Cort and i are really into Lost these days. i'm not sure if we really like it that much, or if we are just that curious to see what the crazy writers come up with next. where do they get this stuff?? either way, we're hooked.

i think this may be a mcflurry weekend. i don't know yet, but i've been craving one my whole pregnancy, and have yet to indulge. if i count the number of "other stuff" i've been eating to make up for my deprivation though...i probably could have cleaned out a whole mcdonalds by now.

you should probably get one too.

have a good weekend. xo.

monday confessions.

sometimes instead of washing my fruit, i'll simply rub them on my pants.

i don't believe (or just don't have the willpower) in having just one cookie. or one of anything.

i can't sew to save my life. or iron. as you recall from this little incident.

i'm anti-technology and can't work a touch-screen phone.

i need to eat something sweet after almost every meal.

my favorite book of all time is still the the last of the really great whangdoodles by julie andrews (yes, mary poppins). anyone have a copy i can borrow?

i have been sleeping in until at least 9 am, sometimes 10 for the last couple weeks. i rarely remember cort leaving for work at sunrise. i feel so lazy.

i don't really like "dinner foods". i'd rather eat cereal, or something equally as convenient, for almost every meal.

i don't change my brita filter as often as i should. i'm almost always 2 months behind.

i roll my eyes at celebrities and reality tv, yet i'm an avid reader of people magazine and a fan of the bachelorette.

for the short stint we had in san francisco, i think i considered myself a republican. or at least the residents there did.

i think adding m&m's to any recipe makes it better.

i very much believe in the motto, "working to live" rather than "living to work".

i can't go to bed with anything out of place - that means, laundry is put away, no dishes in the sink and the house needs to at least "feel" clean.

sometimes i want to cut my hair really, really short and dye it blonde.

xo.

22 July 2010

hello ladies. how are you? fantastic.

between this, and the "real men of genius" commercials, cort and i can stay entertained for hours.

swan dive!! priceless...

lesson learned.

never bet your first child's future college education on the outcome of a football game.

p.s. happy birthday carlee. i'm sure you are sulking right now, but try to keep your chin up. it's your day - this too, shall pass.

p.p.s. i love you.

some days

{rainy day san francisco, photo by nitsa}

some days are very rainy and cold.

some days the sun doesn't come out at all.

some days you visit 4 different stores trying to find just one thing.

some days you feel stranded.

some days the wind blows your $4 umbrella inside out, making it useless.

some days your walking shoes are on their last leg and your feet end up very wet and cold.

some days you forget bus fare.

some days you wish you lived in the suburbs where you know exactly where everything is, and exactly how to get it...without having to walk miles and miles to get there.

some days it's best to go back home, get back in your pajamas and watch movies the rest of the day...

and just start again tomorrow.

only some days.

*project thankful: even though today, didn't work out....i am still so thankful for the rain. i love it above all other weather elements.

in case my husband ever reads this blog...

... then he should know i still remember being elated for saturday nights when i could watch dr. mike and all her do-gooding around the colorado plains. her pioneering feminism and daily humanitarianism still makes me want to go to medical school, move to a small town, wear my hair in braids, and perform medical services as a trade-off for my winter food storage.

the complete series just went on sale (not that i was looking. but maybe i was). for interested parties, you can order it here.

*also, in case said interested parties are curious - this tv series is about cowboys and indians. just sayin...

check out : awkward family photos

was perusing through some blogs this morning when i was linked to this amazing site. it reminded me of my sisters, amy and anna. i think it is something they would enjoy or even come up with on their own. i got a kick out of it. the author gives some of the photos "awkward pose of the week" captions with amazing names such as, "the banana boat," "the pile-on" and "the arm-shelf". if you grew up in the nineties, and took a school picture while sitting on a small ladder/footstool with the 3 foot picket fence in the background, while leaning onto your fist, check this site out and you'll get a good laugh.

all the good ideas are taken....

How do I get one?

I think this little creature would make an interesting pet. He is where the inspiration for "furbys" came from. Hilariously adorable. If anyone needs a Christmas present idea for me, read this article.....

The Other Woman

Cort got the new Google phone this weekend. I hate technology.
