I've seriously contemplated doing that like a hundred times. I'm not too sure about my crib though. I compromise by doing what I call the crib hug. Lean in cheek to cheek and rub their head. It stops them from crying and it's easier to get away when they fall asleep because they are not on top of you or tangled in your arms. It does tend to make my arms fall asleep though...the things we do to get little ones to sleep.
